By now you know that when the four of us are together, in person or via the magic of the internet, the conversations almost always come back to books. We love them. We love the people who write them, the people who publish them, and the people who read them. In fact, we have so many feelings about books that we wanted to find a way to share our conversations with you!
Welcome to a new week of Spotlight Sunday, hosted by Fiction Fare (Erin & Jaime) and Swoony Boys Podcast (Kassiah & Meg), where we dish about ALL things bookish. Each week we’ll post a topic, we’ll start the conversation by telling you some of our thoughts, and then it will be your turn to sound off in the comment section.
Is there a genre you absolutely won’t pick up no matter what?
Jaime: There are things I’m not a fan of for sure … Western anything just don’t do a single thing for me. And Biographies either… no matter whose it is, I just can’t get myself to read. I’ve tried reading like Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling’s books but I just don’t have any interest in them so I’ve learned not to bother.
Erin: I’m with you Jaime on the Westerns…Not for me. Memoirs and biographies don’t really do anything for me either. Do cookbooks count? 🙂 I don’t cook a lot and that’s really the only other genre I can think of.
Kassiah: I pretty much read YA and Romance books, so I don’t even look at the other genres you mentioned, like non-fiction and Biographies. Within those genres though, I find there are books that I don’t really pick up. Like steampunk or horror or books featuring wolves. 🙂
Jaime: lol yeah… wolves aren’t my thing, although Shiver is still a favorite. I’ve gotta make exceptions somewhere.
Meg: I’m with Jaime and Erin on the Westerns, and Kass on Horror. I am also the only one in our pretty little group who had never picked up an Adult or New Adult title. I love so many of the authors, I just haven’t made the… plunge. (Why does that feel so weird to put in this sentence?) I guess with everything I have to remind myself to never say never. I always said I’d never read about vampires and we all know how that story ended. Right, Edward?
Now that you’ve read some of our thoughts, let us know what you’re thinking in the comments below! We’ll be back next week with a brand new topic and lots more to talk about.

Nice subject.
I only read fiction, so anything out of that, it’s a no go for me.
In fiction, I don’t read westerns, or anything highland-y. I gotta say, I don’t even read stories set in Scotland or Ireland, lol. I don’t know, I just keep skimming and skimming. It’s not worth it anymore.
I also don’t read werewolves or any type of shapeshifter. Not even out of curiosity.
I’m also not a fan of historical fiction. I have read them, so I do make an exception once in a while , but most of the time, I keep changing the time period to present time, lol.
I have a ‘sort of no, but not really’ category, lol. It’s angst. I read heavy subjects, full of angst, but I’m rather careful with those. I’m too sensitive to those subjects, so it’s emotionally draining. I read them, but only when I have a fluffy book to back up. 🙂
I don’t like horror either, and I do not like zombies. Also, those Cozy Mysteries and Nonfiction.
I’m 31 and I also didn’t like Westerns… until I found a sexy series about cowboys that I now absolutely adore. I can’t even remember why I gave the audiobook a try. I’ve read two Western series by that author, but none by any other author.
