Thanksgiving Stuffing
by Trish Doller
Thanksgiving is my favorite of all the holidays. I love that there’s none of the pressure that comes with picking out the perfect Christmas gifts. I love getting up early on Thanksgiving morning, cueing up a playlist of favorite songs, and cooking the holiday feast. I love setting the table. But the part I love best is sitting around the table with people I love, eating, drinking, talking, and being thankful for their presence in my life.
I decided for the Happy Thanksgiving Hop, I would share my stuffing recipe. It’s a favorite at our table and I usually have to make extras so we’ll have leftovers.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 bags of Pepperidge Farm Herb Seasoned Stuffing
- 32oz carton of chicken broth (I buy more than I think I’ll need because any leftovers can always be used for gravy)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1# pound of ground sausage
- 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and chopped
- 1 12oz bag of Ocean Spray craisins
- 1/2 cup raisins (I like golden for the aesthetics, but regular raisins are fine)
DIRECTIONS:
Prepare the stuffing according to the bag directions, substituting chicken broth for water. Cook the sausage, onion, and celery in a skillet over med-high heat, until sausage is thoroughly cooked, onion and celery are tender-crisp. Combine the stuffing with the sausage, onion, celery mixture. Add the chopped apple, a couple generous handfuls of craisins (I tend to eyeball it), and the raisins. Mix well and bake 20-30 minutes in a 375 degree oven.
(Note: You can make your own bread cubes and herb seasoning, but I’m lazy and no one has ever complained that my stuffing is not completely from scratch.)
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I’ll see you on the other side of Black Friday!
Love,
~Trish
***Meet Trish Doller***
Trish has been writing for as long as she can remember, but didn’t try to be a published author until more recently, something for which she thinks we should be thankful for.
She was born in Germany, grew up in Ohio, and graduated with a degree in journalism from Ohio State University. Married someone really awesome and moved around with him a bit from Maine to Michigan and back to Ohio. She worked as a radio personality and as a staff writer for her hometown newspaper. She also had a couple of kids along the way who have become two of the most interesting adults she’s ever met.
These days she lives, works, and sails in Florida with a relentlessly optimistic border collie and a pirate.

Caroline Kelly is excited to be spending her summer vacation working at the local amusement park with her best friend, exploring weird Ohio with her boyfriend, and attending soccer camp with the hope she’ll be her team’s captain in the fall.
But when Caroline’s mother is hired to open an eye clinic in Cairo, Egypt, Caroline’s plans are upended. Caroline is now expected to spend her summer and her senior year in a foreign country, away from her friends, her home, and everything she’s ever known.
With this move, Caroline predicts she’ll spend her time navigating crowded streets, eating unfamiliar food, and having terrible bouts of homesickness. But what she finds instead is a culture that surprises her, a city that astounds her, and a charming, unpredictable boy who challenges everything she thought she knew about life, love, and privilege.
From critically acclaimed author Trish Doller comes an honest, hopeful, and romantic story about the barriers we tear down for the people and places we love most.
