Today’s Top Ten Tuesday gives us a chance to talk about our Top Ten ALL TIME Favorite Books Of X Genre! We didn’t think it would be, but picking our category/genre was relatively easy. We decided to go with a group of books that we love and that aren’t talked about enough. So what are they? Today we are talking all about Boarding School Books! (As usual we went alphabetical because once you pick the top ten, it’s too hard to put them in order!) Here’s our list…
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
There are so many things to love about this book (Étienne), but the very first thing we fell in love with was the the setting: boarding school in Paris! :le sigh:
Free to Fall by Lauren Miller
We could sum up our love for this book with one simple word: North. He’s one of the greatest swoony boys of all time. We know it’s hard to believe with that kind of statement, but he’s just one of many amazing things that fill these pages.
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Our favorite series of all time just happens to also be set in the school we both wish we had gotten in to. Still waiting on our letters. Just saying.
Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
We love everything about this series, from the kick-ass heroine to the swoony boy(s) to the best friends forever. We only wish we could go to school at Hex Hall!
Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
We don’t think this is cheating since technically Isla is a stand-alone. And Josh is so damn swoony, we couldn’t leave this book out.
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
This book is so heartfelt and emotional, we don’t even know what to say about it besides read it, if you haven’t already. It’s amazing.
Looking for Alaska by John Green
When Pudge goes off to boarding school, he has no idea how much his life–and his heart–are about to change. We weren’t prepared for the feels, either.
Prom and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg
We {heart} Pride and Prejudice and pretty much can’t stay away from any retellings. The fact that this fun book is set around prom is just icing on the cake.
A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
You had us at Sherlock Holmes retelling. Throw in an elite prep school setting, and we’re goners.
Winger by Andrew Smith
We love Ryan Dean. He’s incredibly real, very flawed, and oh so lovable.
Honorable Mention:
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
This is one of our favorites from our childhoods. Even though Sara’s experience in boarding school wasn’t the best, we love her story and couldn’t leave this one out.
So, that’s our list this week. So let us know: Have you read any (or all) of these? What are the books you recommend the most??
Ahh! I forgot Babe in Boyland!
I like Baldwin’s School For Unusual Girls.
