A popular guy and a shy girl with a secret become unlikely accomplices for midnight pranking, and are soon in over their heads—with the law and with each other—in this sparkling standalone from NYT-bestselling author Anna Banks.
It’s been years since Carly Vega’s parents were deported. She lives with her brother, studies hard, and works at a convenience store to contribute to getting her parents back from Mexico.
Arden Moss used to be the star quarterback at school. He dated popular blondes and had fun with his older sister, Amber. But now Amber’s dead, and Arden blames his father, the town sheriff who wouldn’t acknowledge Amber's mental illness. Arden refuses to fulfill whatever his conservative father expects.
All Carly wants is to stay under the radar and do what her family expects. All Arden wants is to NOT do what his family expects. When their paths cross, they each realize they’ve been living according to others. Carly and Arden’s journey toward their true hearts—and one another—is funny, romantic, and sometimes harsh.
Character Interview
Hi, Arden! We are so excited that you agreed to chat with us. We promise to be gentle. Let’s get started…
I can deal with it all, as long as I’m with Carly. I never realized that I needed anyone before, and especially that I’d need her of all people. But the crazy thing is, she needs me too. Maybe she won’t say it. But I see it in her eyes, in the way she leans into me when something bad happens. As long as we have each other? We’ll be okay.
I love shooting firecrackers out the window with a slingshot. Carly’s aim is getting better. As in, she gets the fire cracker outside the car now before it explodes. But it’s still fun when she drops it, then throws herself into my lap to get away from it.
At first, I didn’t think anything of her. I didn’t know her. Things changed when she pointed a gun at my head. That kind of points things into perspective and makes you take a second look at someone you know? After that, I was too curious to let her slip through my fingers. Thank God the girl thawed out! She was colder than a witch’s uh,…hand.
Her fearlessness. She worries all the time about her family and my uncle and school, but what she doesn’t realize is that she’s equal to all of it. She stronger than the challenges she faces. I could never imagine Carly failing at anything.
***The Swoony 5***
(These are the five questions we ask all our swoony boys!)
Boxers. Briefs are for dads.
I am a good kisser, don’t you worry about that. And all I’ll say about the last question is: Carly.
My sister Amber and I always used to try play his pranks on our Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Cletus.
I can’t imagine wanting Carly to be out of the bed while I was in it, but if you’re looking to find out what my favorite breakfast is, it’s chicken and waffles. But Carly always burns the waffles, so I’d be the one making breakfast in bed for her.
Definitely my truck, Betty. She can get you out of any mudhole in the south. Girls like big trucks. You know you do. You don’t have to say it.
***About Anna Banks***
Anna Banks is a young adult author whose primary goal is to entertain smart, funny gals like herself. You can expect her works to be centered around a love story, freckled with humor, and seasoned with sarcasm.
Anna grew up in a small town called Niceville (yes, really) in the Florida Panhandle. She now lives with her husband and daughter close to her hometown. The youngest of seven children, she was spoiled beyond comprehension growing up. Before she started writing, Anna worked as a banker and a waitress. She loves old movies, fried chicken, and Simon Cowell, but loathes exercise, licorice, and haters.
She also spews sarcastic, romantic fiction under pen name Anna Scarlett.

This is amazing! I badly want Joyride!
I really could use a sweet, funny, happy ending romance for the summer!
I’m really curious about this book so I really want to read this one. Most people can relate with the characters because it also tackles about major problems most of us are facing nowadays.
I read Anna’s Syrena Legacy series and I loved it, so I knew Joyride is going to be another great read. After reading the synopsis, I’m really interested in reading it. Thank you for this amazing chance! 🙂
I like the issues that it mentions, it’s diversity.
