A host of the sharpest young adult authors come together in this collection of terrifying tales and psychological thrillers. Each story draws from a mix of literature, film, television, or even music to offer something new and fresh and unsettling. Even better? After you’ve teased out each tale’s references, satisfy your curiosity at the end, where the inspiration is revealed. There are no superficial scares here. These are stories that will make you think even as they keep you on the edge of your seat. From bloody horror, to the supernatural, to unnerving, all-too-possible realism, this collection has something for anyone looking for an absolute thrill.
***Our Review***
The 411:
14 of the most awesome YA authors contributed short stories to this compilation, each based on a book, movie, or music. Some of them are ridiculously creepy and gory–and a couple of them are just ridiculous.
What We Loved:
We loved getting to read stories from new-to-us authors, like Stefan Bachmann and Jonathan Maberry. We also loved the suspense and the scary feeling we got reading these (we’re looking especially at you, Nova Ren Suma). We reading stories from our favorite authors, like Leigh Bardugo and Marie Lu, who surprised us here. If you’re a fan of any of these authors, you’ll want to pick this book up.
Um...Not So Much:
We’re not really huge horror fans, but if you are, you’re going to love this book. There was one story in particular we really didn’t like, and not because it was too scary. It just wasn’t great, and we wish we had skipped it.
Bottom Line:
With a lineup of authors like this, you can’t go wrong, regardless of the genre. These amazing authors rose to the occasion and gave us some really creepy, wicked reads that definitely belong on every YA lovers’ shelves.
Verdict:
